I am a 30 year old female and I have been experiencing hair thinning behind the front hair line over the past 4 years. I have been natural for about 3 years as I thought the chemical relaxer was the cause of the thinning. However, the thinning has continued to worsen. Several blood tests have been done by 2 dermatologists and all results were normal. However, thorough scalp analysis or a biopsy was not done. There has not been any visible inflammation, itching, flaking, or burning. Do you have any suggestions or can you recommend a dermatologist the specialized in hair loss in my area of Temple, TX?
RESPONSE
You mention that you were seen by dermatologists who did blood tests and evaluations, but you do not mention what treatment was prescribed if any.
It would be useful to know what was used to treat the condition.
Also, some types of hair loss conditions will continue to progress long after the problem that caused the hair loss to start has been eliminated.
It is not unusual for the hair loss to progress without any associated symptoms.
That is why it is important to treat hair loss conditions for 2 reasons.
One is to preserve the hair that is still there and the other reason is to get any hair that will respond to medical treatment to grow back.
The dermatologists closest to you in Temple would be Dr. Raymond Blackburn in Dallas and myself in Houston.
